Membership Application--Fellowship of Christian Anglers Society (FOCAS)
October 1983, eighteen Professional Bass Anglers gathered at StateMissouri's PlaceNameplaceTruman PlaceNameLake as an informal bible study group. "It was just a bunch of bass fisherman who wanted to worship because they couldn't attend church while on the tournament trail," said Professional Angler Jimmy Houston. Among this group was Chris Houston, Hank Parker, addressStreetHomer Circle, Al Lindner, Ray Scott and others. They wanted the ministry to serve as a bond between all fishermen. A ministry that would use the sport of fishing as a tool to make sportfishermen into "...fishers of men" (Matthew 4:19)
The size of the fellowship grew. Some attending were members of other ministry organizations such as The Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Several years later a group of Christian anglers and fishing industry supporters met at an American Tackle Manufacturers Show in CityplaceDallas, StateTX. The idea of a National Ministry was birthed and a name suggested by addressStreetHomer Circle was chosen. In 1988, several independent fishing oriented ministries merged under the umbrella of one national ministry called the Fellowship of Christian Anglers Society (FOCAS). Included in this group were the original Fellowship of Christian Anglers which was started by Professional Fisherman, the Fishers of Men, Fellowship of Christian Athletes fishing ministry, and Let's Go Fishing Ministry founded be Jim Grassi. FOCAS has grown into a world wide fishing ministry with chapters across the PlaceNameUnited PlaceTypeState's, Africa, and country-regionplaceZimbabwe.
Women's Bassmaster FOCAS
A group of anglers met May 17, 2006 before the WBT Lewisville TX tournament, to attend a praise and prayer meeting. The meeting was organized by Conny Jenkins to determine if there was interest in forming a WBT FOCAS group. The group was unanimous in their decision to form a chapter, officers were appointed and over thirty women joined that evening. It was decided meetings would be held prior to the tournament briefing. Membership dues were established at $20.00 which includes affiliation with the national organization.
